What to expect with interior design

No matter what you think of when you think interior design, the most important thing to remember is that this is your project. When you meet with a designer, simply discuss the vision that you have with them and they will work to ensure your satisfaction.

While there certainly are some customary practices when it comes to design, if something isn’t working for you, there’s no need to add it to your design scheme.

At Total House + Floor, we want to make sure your space is truly yours, and we will go out of our way to ensure that you're pleased the the results.

We invite you to stop in anytime to discuss your specific design needs with one of our experienced design professionals.

Working with a designer

One of the very best ways to communicate your specific vision for your interior design is with lots of photos. First, take pictures of your existing space, for a reference point. Then collect lots and lots of pictures about things that stand out to you. This gives your designer a point from which to start and an idea of the direction you’d like to take with your own space.

You’ll also want to be prepared to answer any questions the professional might have for you. They will want to know about what you like and don’t like, how your rooms function, and if there’s anything in particular that you want to replace. It may feel like an interview, but a good working relationship and compatibility with your designer is essential in interior design.

A budget is definitely one of the aspects you should be ready to talk about. While your designer can definitely provide you with a lot of examples and samples, being able to discuss your budget will not only help you, but it will help them know exactly what to offer.

Don’t worry if you don’t have the budget for the entire project at once. Many homeowners carry out gradual renovations and this is something else your designer can help you with. Knowing in advance that this is what you have planned will guide your designer’s recommendations and help them to understand the target date that you have in mind for the finished product.
