Carpet fibers

One of the most important features of carpet is the fiber that it’s made from. The type of fiber that a carpet is made from dictates how durable the carpet is and which area of the home that it should be placed in. Different fibers react to traffic and elements differently.

Wool is one of the most expensive carpeting options that there is, and while it offers a luxurious feel, it gives way to wear and tear quickly, even to the point of acquiring bald spots. It also shrinks when exposed to moisture.

On the other hand, Olefin carpeting is perfect for areas such as the basement, where moisture and humidity are nearly a constant. This type of carpeting is resistant to staining or fading, however, it can be easily crushed.

Polyester carpeting is a great choice if you’re looking for spectacular color and a wonderful resistance to fading and stains.

Nylon, one of the most popular carpet fiber choices, is durable, offers wonderful stain resistance and is resilient.

Carpet benefits

If you have children or elderly people living in your home, carpet is likely to be one of the best options. The luxuriously soft feel underfoot not only makes a wonderful material to walk on, but also provides a soft place to fall, in the event that an accident should occur. For children, it gives them a warm place to play, and we all know that children love floor time! Noise canceling is another feature that carpet is known for. It can cut down on the noise you hear between rooms, or even between floors. It seems to soak up the sound waves as they move through the air, and gives you a calm, safe space throughout your home.
